XJ900 Down - 17/01/1999
1999 was a bad year for me and spills. My 1st one was on a dark and rainy
wintery morning (07:15) on my way to work. I take a portion of the blame
myself. I was tired, it was raining , I couldn't see very well out of the
visor with the glare of the traffic lights.
I was waiting patiently at the traffic lights to turn right onto the East
Lancs (A580) , when they changed I accelerated away , then things went haywire.
The bike lurched then dropped to the left, I employed my time help
method of "get away quick" and pushed away. As I landed I noticed the lights
for the traffic to come straight on had changed and all the cars started
to come towards me. Luckily for me a biker was at the head of the queue and
he stopped his bike in front of me before any cars could hit me.
We wheeled my bike to the side and then tried to
a) Work out what happened
b) See what damage I had done
It turns out that the 1st light was missing from the traffic island and I
had used the 2nd light to get my line (assuming it was the 1st ) because
of the earlier mentioned visor/visability thing.
As you can see from the photos below I got off pretty lightly. Mirror, bar
ends, indicators and crahs bars. In all it came to £260, which I claimed
back off the council because the unlit traffic island was their fault :=}
